HAS THERE BEEN A DEFINING MOMENT IN YOUR FOOTBALL CAREER?
Too many to recall, but on reflection of the career I have had, I think the main defining moment is simply that I grew up with the dream to be a professional football player, and I managed to achieve it.
WHAT HAS BEEN A CHALLENGING MOMENT?
Missing out on career changing opportunities through a freak injury at the worst possible time would be up there, I imagine that many people can relate to that too.
I feel like we all have stories where an injury has meant a big opportunity slips away.
WHAT DRIVES YOU TO TRAIN SO HARD & PLAY WEEK IN, WEEK OUT?
I think it’s just a mentality. I am pretty chill on my own, but if someone else is around I get competitive really quick. So even if I wanted to relax I probably would end up training/playing hard as a default haha. Also, I believe that if you care about anything you should apply yourself. It doesn’t matter if I was training in the snow or reading a book at home, to get the most out of what you do, you need to focus on what you are doing, and apply or immerse yourself in it. Once you realise that hard work pays off, you realise the importance of applying that mentality as much as you can.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A YOUNGER PLAYER?
Learn about the importance of Nutrition 😉 and sleep. Looking after yourself away from your sport is as important and pushing yourself to succeed in your sport.
…And do what makes you happy.
WHAT ROLE HAS NUTRITION PLAYED FOR YOU?
I’m very interested in nutrition, being east african, I have a very fast metabolism and fast-twitch muscles, so maintaining my body weight for performance and injury prevention has been really important to me. Away from sport, learning to control my energy levels and food consumption through food choices and timing of eating is something that I have really enjoyed and noticed significant changes that I can credit almost entirely placing a priority on the food I consume, and making sure I get quality sleep.
